of a major resort town surrounded by pristine Canadian wilderness. The township is located within Banff National
Park, and at more than 1,800 metres it is the highest
town in Canada. Banff is a friendly and welcoming town and the wide snowy streets offer an endless
variety of shops, bars and restaurants all catering
to a festive crowd that creates a relaxed and holiday atmosphere
all year round. You might also spot the occasional deer on
the outskirts of town. With more than 100 restaurants, there are endless choices for dining in Banff and you’re sure to enjoy a cheap meal and
a quiet drink at one of the dozens of pubs and bars in town. Banff also has some great nightlife – so dance away the night at the Aurora Nightclub
on Banff Avenue or the Dancing Sasquatch. While you’re here take a ride into the Canadian
Rockies on the Banff Gondola to see panoramic views of beautiful Bow Valley
and Bow River, as well as the Banff township below. There are many outdoor activities and an interpretive
trail on the mountain, as well as a restaurant. Be sure to rug up though as it can get very
cold! When it’s time to warm up, luxuriate in the soothing waters of the Banff
Upper Hot Springs where, for more than a century, travellers have relaxed in the historic hot
spa – all with a backdrop of the snow covered Canadian
Rockies. Tunnel Mountain has easy hikes for all levels
of fitness as well as spectacular alpine views. Sunshine Village ski resort is only fifteen
minutes from Banff and with 107 ski runs, three mountains, over
3000 acres of terrain, and 30 feet of snow per year the resort is
perfect for all skiers. The heart of Sunshine Village is the Sunshine
Mountain Lodge which is Banff’s only ski in / ski out hotel providing luxury accommodation right on the
slopes. The Fairmont Banff Springs hotel sits proud
among the Rocky Mountains The opulent design of this lavish hotel provides a touch of old world luxury in a
stunning alpine environment. Johnston Canyon is a short 30 minute drive
from Banff and the incredible scenery will leave you
speechless. An easy trek up the canyon’s ice walk will reveal spectacular frozen waterfalls, freezing cold mountain pools and an enchanted
alpine forest of snow-covered spruce and aspen. With the magnificent Rocky Mountains towering
all around and the raw wilderness surrounding the township, Banff will feel a long way from home – but once you’re here you may never want to
leave.
