Barlett travel agency business license revoked after complaints of billing, booking nightmares

VACATIONS. JASON KNOWLES HAS THE UPDATE. JASON: WE ARE LEARNING A MORE COMPLAINTS, PEOPLE WHO NOT ONLY SAY THEY WERE OVERCHARGED BUT ALSO SAY THAT IN SOME CASES, FLIGHTS AND HOTELS WERE NOT BOOKED FOR THEM AS THEY THOUGHT. IN A RECENT HEARING, BARTLETT OFFICIALS REVOKED THE BUSINESS LICENSE FROM ULTIMATE TRAVEL AND ITS OWNER.>>26 PEOPLE IN HAWAII, NO PLACE TO SAY. JASON: DEBBIE STRETTON’S CLAIM OF STRESS AND MONEY LOSS WAS ONE OF THREE CASES DOCUMENTED IN THESE AFFIDAVITS. THEY CONVINCED KNOWLEDGE OF BARTLETT LEADERS TO HOLD A HEARING ABOUT THE FUTURE OF ULTIMATE TRAVEL. STRETTON HELPED HER MOTHER PLAN A HAWAII VACATION OF A LIFETIME FOR HER 80TH BIRTHDAY THROUGH ULTIMATE TRAVEL. TELL US HOW MUCH IT TURNED OUT TO BE.>>$84,779 AND $.29.>>GOING TO HER AFFIDAVIT, THE PREPAID GROUP EXCURSION, WHICH STARTED OUT TO BE $36,823, SKYROCKETED TO $84,775. THE FAMILY HAD TO DO BACK INTO ITS POCKETS TO COVER AIRFARE AND HOTELS, WHICH THE FAMILY SAYS WERE NOT BOOKED AS PROMISED.>>IT JUST TOOK A TOLL ON THE SAVINGS. I’M 80 YEARS OLD. JASON: SHE FILED COMPLAINTS AND AT THE HEARING, THE VILLAGE REVOKED THE BUSINESS LICENSE FOR ULTIMATE TRAVEL AND OTHER RELATED BUSINESS NAMES.>>IT SOUNDS LIKE A BEGINNING OF THIS, SHE WAS ATTEMPTING TO MAKE GOOD CORRECTING MANY FROM SOME AND GIVING IT TO OTHERS, AND THEN IT JUST SNOWBALLED. JASON: MAYOR KEVIN WALLACE SPOKE TO ME AFTER THE HEARING. NOW SHE CANNOT DO BUSINESS ANYMORE? >>NOT IN BARTLETT AND HOPEFULLY NOWHERE. JASON: OTHER CONSUMERS CLAIMED THEY, TOO, DEALT WITH TILLING AND BOOKING NIGHTMARES. SOME SAY THEY ALSO OVERPAID. ULTIMATE TRAVEL’S ATTORNEYS SAID ALL CUSTOMERS HAD BEEN MADE WHOLE. THREE OF THE FOUR CONSUMERS THE I-TEAM SPOKE TO DISPUTE THAT. AS FOR THE REVOCATION HEARING, THE BUSINESS OWNER’S ATTORNEY SAYS HIS CLIENT WOULD VIGOROUSLY FIGHT THE VILLAGE, BUT — >>THEY HAVE NOT SHOWN UP ANY OTHER TIMES WHEN WE HAVE REQUESTED THEM TO SHOW UP. JASON: THE ATTORNEY ALSO SENT THIS LETTER IN WHICH HE SAID THE HEARING WAS NOT NEEDED BECAUSE HIS CLIENT ALREADY AGREED TO SURRENDER THE BUSINESS LICENSE. THE LETTER GOES ON TO SAY THAT ULTIMATE TRAVEL HAS NEVER BEEN ASKED TO APPEAR IN COURT AND THAT VILLAGE OFFICIALS HAVE UNLAWFULLY TAKEN OVER THE ROLE OF THE JUDICIARY. HE ADDED THAT SINCE THERE IS AN ACTIVE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION, THERE SHOULD BE NO HEARING UNTIL THAT INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN CONCLUDED. BARTLETT POLICE CONDUCTED A SEARCH WARRANT OF ULTIMATE TRAVEL AND SEIZED RECORDS.
