IN 18 DIFFERENT SPORTS. ((EMILY)) THE FIFTH ANNUAL BRIDGING THE GAP PICNIC TOOK PLACE IN SPRINGFIELD TODAY. IT STARTED AS A WAY FOR FIRST RESPONDERS AND THE COMMUNITY TO COME TOGETHER IN CASUAL SETTING. THE FIRST BRIDGING THE GAP PICNIC TOOK PLACE AFTER THE MICHAEL BROWN SHOOTING IN FERGUSON MISSOURI. THE EVENT HAS GROWN EVERY YEAR. THIS YEAR, FIRST RESPONDERS EVEN BROUGHT A HELICOPTER. KENNETH LEWIS MENTOR AT THE OUTLET There has been so much violence in the city. And there are people that don’t want to get involved and help people. I think it is just a good idea for everybody to mess with the police department and the community of springfield and see eye to eye on certain topics. THE EVENT IS ORGANIZED BY THE OUTLET — A YOUTH MENTORING ORGANIZATION IN SPRINGFIELD.
