Oakland, California Historical Landmarks : Oakland, California: The Trowbridge House

This is a little honeymoon cottage for Tillie
Delger and her husband here in Trowbridge. It was built in eighteen eight-five. And Tillie’s
father Frederick Delger, was Oakland’s first millionaire. He started out as a shoe salesman
during the gold rush, and made all his money in real estate in the eighteen sixties and
eighteen seventies. And when his daughter Tillie wanted to get married, her father built
her this little honeymoon cottage. Now this little honeymoon cottage stood in the way
of other development in downtown Oakland, so it was moved here to be part of the Preservation
Park collection.
