Russian holiday: The Day of Forgiveness

Hello, my friends! Welcome to my channel! My name is Tatiana, and today I’m going to tell you about Russian holiday Quinquagesima (the day of forgiveness, Sunday next before Lent). This holiday is celebrated on the 10th of March in 2019. The day of forgiveness is the last Sunday on the Eve of Lent. Maslenitsa ends in this day and the scarecrow of Maslenitsa is burned as a symbol of the end of winter. People go outside, make bustling festivities, eat pancakes. There is one important custom to ask each other for forgiveness on this day. That custom came from ancient time, when the monks left cities and monasteries for the time of Lent and went to the desert, not knowing whether they would go back or not. That why it was important for them to say “goodbye” and forgive all people. Orthodox people also make apologies to each other to commemorate this. We should not only ask forgiveness from those we have offended, but also forgive those who have offended us. So, I ask you forgive me if I didn’t respond to your comment or if I accidentally offended you! Thank you for watching my videos! Bye!
